Why retreat?
... to enjoy the weekend, God, each other, and the forest and fields around Crieff. The main point of our retreats is that we want to get to know each other better and have fun while were at it - we believe that's a big part of the community we're becoming as we try to follow Christ together. Among other things, retreats are about emerging friendships, scrumptious food, a roaring fire, good late-night conversation, and time away from the stresses and slush of city-life.
Crieff Hills where we are going is a beautiful spot. The lodge where we will be staying (not far from Guelph) is a comfortable (not to mention historic) facility so if you just want to stay indoors and read a book – that’s fine. Feel free to bring along your favourite game in addition to all the enthusiasm you can muster for the arduous task of rest and relaxation.
Jennifer Hart Weed will be our speaker for the weekend.

About Jennifer...
Jennifer Hart Weed teaches here in Toronto at Tyndale University College. She is a philosophy professor of the most down-to-earth variety. Her latest book is 24 and Philosophy: The World According to Jack, which she co-edited with her husband, Ron (who also philosophizes up at Tyndale). Jennifer and Ron used to worship at Knox occasionally when they were grad students at U of T; in fact, Jennifer has a definite soft spot for presbyterian courtship rituals since Ron used to live at Knox House when they first started dating. She originally hails from Brantford, Ontario, but has lived in Toronto, St. Louis, and Lynchburg, Va.

What she'll be covering...
What is truth and where can we find it?
Christians have a high view of the truth; we try to live according to God's true teaching and His Word. But do we know where to locate that truth? Jennifer Hart Weed will help us consider the topic of “Finding Truth in Unexpected Places: Extra-Biblical Sources and Christian Worldview.” While scripture is our primary source for knowing God, both the Old and New Testament also refer to sources outside of the bible and tell us that we can find truth there too. What is our view of truth that is out there, part of the culture? And how do we sort through it? In 2 one-hour sessions with Jennifer on the Saturday, we'll explore these and other questions -- hot dang! |

"I'd never gone on a retreat before. I really liked it. People were really friendly. The best part was going for walks and throwing snow around - also the speaker was excellent."
